International Civil Aviation Organizaition(ICAO)
It is a specialized agency related to the UN that promotes the sage and orderly growth of Civil Aviation. It sets international standard in such files as air navigational facilities, air operations, airports, airworthiness of aircrafts and communications. The ICAO is also concerned with the efficiency and economics of air transport and encourages flight safety. In addition, it works to establish international laws that deal with such crimes as airplane hijacking. More than 150 nations are the members of ICAO. The agency was founded in 1944 A.D and its headquater is in Montreal, Canada.
In November 1944, 54 nations attented the Chicago convention and agreed that ICAO has to be developed in a safe and orderly manner and that international air transport service may be established on the basis of equality of opportunity and operate smoothly and economically. There is a close assosiaion between ICAO and IATA. The ICAO is the world organixation of a schedule airlines.
Aims and Objectives of ICAO
Some of the aims and objectives of ICAO are listed below:
- To ensure the safe and orderly growth of International Civil Aviation throughout the world.
- To encourage the art of aircrafts design and oprations for peaceful purpose.
- To encourage the development of airways, airports and air navigational facilities.
- To meet the needs of the people in the world for safe, regular, efficient and economical air transport.
- Prevent economic waste caused by unreasonable competition.
- To Ensure the right of contracting states are fully respected and that every contacting states has a fare opportunities to operate international flight.
- To avoid discrimination between contacting states
- To promote safety of flights in international navigations.
- To promote generally the development of all aspects of international Civil aeronautics.
Roles of ICAO
Some of the roles of ICAO are listed below:
- Flying over territory o fcontracting states( air services, customs, rules of the air spread of disease, charges of discrimination etc.)
- Natonality of aircraft, facilitation( customs, accident investigation, etc.)
- Documents( recognization of certificates and liscences etc.)
- International standards and practices, including those for carriage of dangerous goods.
- Statistics, finance, technical assistance etc.

Explanation:
- Assembly:
The first organization of International Civil Aviation Organozaton (ICAO) is assembly. This is the principle organ of ICAO; it is one of the important part of ICAO which formulates the policy of an organization for the better implementation of the policies and a good output or result of it. The meeting of the assembly holds every three years to make policy, after making the policy the review of the prepared policy and detail the various work of an organization. It deals with the formulation or implementation of the policy of an organization for the better outputs.
- Council;
After the first organization of ICAO the second organization of International Civil Aviaiton Organization (ICAO) is council which deals or are used for the counciling. It has elected council to give the continuous direction to the work of organization. Council gives the unbreakable direction to all the various work of an organization. In simple word we can that this oraganzation or council is the governing body of ICAO which gives a continuous direction to the works of an organization and leads it towards the better path.
- Subsidiary Bodies:
After the first and second organization i.e. Assembly and Council, third and the last organization of International Civil Aviation Organization is Subsidiary bodies. Subsidiary bodies such as: Air Navigation Commission, Air Transportation Committee and legal Committee. The main objective of ICAO to have the subsidiary bodies as an organization is to carry out the functions of an organization.
