Tourism platforms are a common theme shared by each batch of tourism studies. It is an easy way of looking at a nature of something,identifying issues which are most important and most important to consider and thinking of ways to solve those.There are five forms of platforms of the tourism.

It is a common theme shared by each batch of tourism studies. It is an easy of looking at nature of something. Tourism platforms are the process of identifying issues which are most important and most important to consider and thinking of ways to solve those. There are five forms of tourism platforms which are listed below:

Forms of tourism platforms:

  1. Advocacy Platforms (1950’s – 1960’s):- In this platform an ideal activity with few negative impacts for tourist destinations that the government should promote tourism was considered by tourism. In these platforms many peoples were advocating for the better development of tourism. The stage of tourism in advocacy platforms are mention below:
  • Tourism takes a positive thing on this platform.
  • In advocacy platforms, tourism has positive impacts on the economy, environment, and society. Etc.

The related theories of these platforms are modernization theory and trickle-down theory. In mass tourism, the result of advocacy platforms will end. In advocacy platform, Lafari Stresses that government should promote tourism in a better way. In this period of platform tourism was considered as the most emitting smoke industry, the more it is the better it will be.

  1. Cautionary Platforms (1970’s):- In these platforms it was proposed that if the tourism destinations will not be planned and regulated carefully, the tourism will goes in a diminishing way and the result of tourism would be in negative impacts which will be very harmful for the development of the tourism. Some of the natures of cautionary platforms are given below:
  • Cautionary platforms view tourism as a bad thing.
  • Cautionary describes the negative impacts of mass tourism.

Safari says, “Tourism would eventually result in negative impacts for tourism destinations unless it was carefully planned and regulated”. Some of the related theories for cautionary platforms are:

  • Dependency theory and
  • Irritation theory.

  1. Adaptancy Platforms (1980’s):- In these platforms mass tourism was promoted less whereas an alternative tourism was promoted more. In adaptancy platforms alternative tourism was promoted in high rate including home stays, cultural villages, rural areas and volunteer tourism with alternative tourism. There was also an increase in the naming of a specific type of a nature tourism. Some of the natures of these platforms are given below:
  • Adaptancy platforms say that the mass tourism has a negative impact.
  • It promotes alternative tourism like low:
  • Low volume tourism,
  • Value tourism and
  • Alternative tourism.
  • It is environmentally oriented like eco-tourism, green tourism etc.
  • It is socially oriented like volunteer tourism, ethic tourism, community-based tourism etc.

  1. Knowledge-based Platforms(the 1990's):- In this period of platforms planning, capacity and the destinations were promoted for the better development of the tourism. Knowledge-based platforms do not look at the size of the tourism whether it is big or small in size but it assesses the management of each destination. Some of the natures of knowledge-based platforms are listed below:
  • Knowledge-based platforms view tourism though a holistic perspectives in terms of impacts, structure, and functionality.
  • It supports critical analysis of tourism.

According to Jafari,” It promotes planning for specific tourism activities and destinations which attempt to scientifically determine impacts and capacities for tourism destinations.” For example Sustainable tourism development.

  1. Social justice Platforms:- In this period of platforms participations, planning and distributions are highly promoted so that the tourism can be developed properly. Some of the natures of social justice platforms are given below:
  • Social justice platform focuses more on participatory processed involving open dailouge inclusivity, resource distribution, equality, proper planning, gender sensitivity responsiveness to diversity.
  • Social justice views the tourism does not only exploit community but it also tries to put back into the community.
