It is basically concerned with making sure that there is a proper accomplishment of functions. The various reasons for the importance of controlling are listed below:

1) Accomplishing organizational goals
The process of controlling helps in accomplishing organizational goals or objectives. It facilitates to achieve overall goals of the organization. It ensures the use of human and material resources in the best possible manner so that there may be pre-determined objectives of the organization.

2) Judging accuracy of the standards
A controlling compares the actual work performance with the standards. Controlling finds out whether the accuracy of the standards is not more or less than the general standards. In case the of needs, they are redefined.

3) Improves efficiency
The organization sets the goal for future which is not certain. So, controlling is the way which focuses on uncertainty and to attain the goals. Controlling minimizes wastages and losses by preventing misuse of resources and ensure proper utilization.

4) Improve employee motivation
Motivation is defined as the process of inspiring someone a reason for doing something. Controlling makes all the employees to work with complete dedication as they know that their work performance will be evaluated. Their identity will be established if the progress report is satisfactory in the organization.

5) Ensuring order and discipline
An effective system of control creates an atmosphere of order and discipline in the organization. Evaluation of performance against predetermined standards induces employees to do things in a proper manner. It promotes them to perform well and to achieve the rewards.

Aquatic Microbiology.

It is the branch of microbiology that deals with the study of microorganisms found in fresh or marine water systems.Aquatic microbiology focus on the microbes present in the oceans, fresh water and marine aqueous environment.The importance of study of aquatic microbiology are as follows;

 • it helps to understand the relationship and ecology of aquatic microorganisms.
 • it can be used to access the microbial quality of drinking water.
 • it helps to predict the cause of water-borne diseases.
 • Study of aquatic microbiology can be used to recycle, decompose and biodegrade wastewater.

Water pollution.

Any physical, chemical, or biological change in water that can adversely affect living organism is known as water pollution. Polluted water may contain infective and parasitic agents, poisonous chemical substances, industrial and agricultural waste or sewage. The biological pollution of water develops from the microorganisms that enter wastes from sources such as human and animal wastes, food and meat processing companies. Microbial agents of pollution include pathogenic bacteria, viruses, helminths, protozoa, and several more complex multicellular organisms that can cause gastro-intestinal illness.

Microorganisms of waste water.

Pathogens may arrive in water through humans and animals intestinal secretions such as E.coli, and other coliforms, Streptococcus faecal, Clostridium per fringe sare normal flora of interesting and their presence in water indicates faecal contamination.Microbiological examination reveals the evidence of pollution in water.

Indicator organisms.

E.coliand other organisms indicate that the water is contaminated from faeces of animal and human origin.It also indicates that other types of intestinal pathogens may be present. The present of coliforms in drinking water is regarded as a warning signal that the water may be subjected to dangerous pollution. Thus, the coliform is widely regarded as the most reliable indicator of water quality.

Membrane filter technique.

The membrane filter technique has become a common and often preferred method of evaluating the microbiological characteristics of water. The advantages of membrane filter techniques are as follows;

 • large volumes of water can be examined.
 • the membrane can be transferred from one medium to another.
 • results are found faster than other methods.
 • Lower cost in comparison to other costs.
 • Ability to do experiment on other sites.

Air Microbiology.

The microbial flora of air is transient and variable.Microorganisms of the ar come from aquatic and terrestrial environment.Different kinds of bacteria like Micrococcus spp, Streptococcus spp, Staphylococcus spp, Sarcina spp are dominantly in air.

Different fungi like species of Alternaria, Aspergillus, Candida, Closdosporium, Fusarium, Mucor, Penicillium are also found in air.Airborne microorganism can be a serious hazard to human.higher concentration of fungi in the air may cause diseaselike Aspergillosis, skin and nail infection, Asthma, various dermatitis etc.

Pathogenic bacteria in air can cause skin and soft tissue like tonsillitis, sinusitis, Asthma, Anthrax etc.Microorganisms in air are significant source of food contamination.

Air-borne diseases.

Air is not suitable medium for the growth and multiplication of infectious agents. The infectious agents have suspended in the air and travel some distance from the source to the host. The organism can be carried in the dust or contaminated within droplet.Some bacteria cause g disease are given below;

Name of disease. Name of bacteria.
Whooping cough Bordetella pertussis
Diptheria. Corneybacterium diphtheria
Tuberculosis. Microbacterium tuberculosis.
Chickenpox. Varicella virus.
Mumps. Mumps virus.
German measles. Rubella virus
Aspergillosis. Aspergillus fumigatus.
Histoplasma Histoplasma capsulated.

Control of Microorganisms in Air.

Microorganisms present in air can be controlled by following ways;

 • Dust control.
 • UV radiation.
 • laminar airflow system.
 • bactericidal vapors.
