Religion is not the phenomenon of the recent origin and its beginning is unknown and dateless.  Religious  system are society's important system of the religious practices which are standardized and formulated where as the religious associations are the organized group of the people who share the beliefs and follow the practices of the religion.

Religion: The social perspectives

Because the religion exists in some form in all of the societies, it is of the great interest to the sociologists. Sociologists study the religion within the framework of the social construction of the reality that is they treat the religion as the social institutions created by the human beings. In so doing they do not try to judge the truth or the validity of any religion. Rather they maintain that, whatever the source of the religious beliefs, the form and the roles that the religion assumes within the society are determined by the human action. A Functionalist Analysis of the religion

Functionalist analysis assumes that the society tends to be stable and integrated system and they argue that the interrelated part of the system maintain the stability of the society by teaching and reinforcing the same set of the basic values. Sociologists tend to agree on the six basics function of the religion that is inextricably linked: social solidarity, meaning, social control, identity, psychological support and the social change.

Dysfunctions of the religions

Functionalists recognize that the social arrangements that are basically useful also generate problems for the society; that is they may also have the dysfunctions. There have been marked by the heightened conflicts between the followers of the tradition, fundamentalists religious group and those who follow the more liberal religion or no religion at all. Issues of the abortion, censorship vs freedom of the expression and the governmental family policy have been lightning rods for increased conflicts in these groups.

Conflict theorists view the religion as they do other social institutions as the mechanism that allows an elite minority to dominate a relatively powerless majority. The dominant religions of the society are the ruling class, who formulated and maintained beliefs that justified the inequalities of the social orders. Rooted in the beliefs about the eternal rewards and the punishments this forms of the social control was extremely effective. Religion refers to the specific fundamental set of beliefs and the practice generally agreed upon by the no of the people.It is closely associated with the morality and has intricate rules of conduct.
