Electric Shock and Drowning
Electric shock
If any bare part of the body such as hands, legs, etc. touches the exposed part of the electric circuit then a person gets an electric shock. Touching a bare electric wire with a bare hand is very dangerous and fatal. People trying to help and disconnect the electric source from victim's body need to be very careful.
Safety measure
- Always keep the electric plugs, switches, wires and etc. in all the rooms and working areas in a safe way.
- Never touch the electric plugs and switches with a wet hand.
- Always switch off appliances such as rice cooker, heaters, TV and radio after use.
- Immediately cover all the naked wires with insulating tape.
First aid
- As soon as someone gets an electric shock, switch off the main support before touching the victims.
- Find out the state of the victim after disconnecting him off the wire.
- If the victim is unconscious then provide artificial respiration to bring him back to consciousness.
- See the nature of burned area from an electric shock and cover it with a clean cloth and soft cloths.
Drowning
People who have died from drowning in water include children to elderly people, who are not expert swimmers. People may drown in water due to many reasons like inability to swim, being swept away while crossing a river, cramps in legs while swimming, capsizing of the boat etc. When a person drowns, his respiration stops due to water and water enter the lungs and the stomach through the mouth and nose. The drowning person could die if first aid is not available in time.

First aid

- Clear, if any, mud, dirt or sand in the nose and the throat of the victim.
- Check whether the victim is breathing or not. If he is not breathing than initiate artificial respiration.
- Keep the victims in the comfortable place, provide him with a hot tea, milk or coffee.
