Alcohol

People have been taking alcohol during social ceremonies since ancient times. People have also been using alcohol in gatherings, ceremonies and parties. The use of alcohol is not considered as illegal as it is sold openly in the market. Alcohol comes in different forms, they are raksi, and, brandy, wine, whiskey, rum, gin, etc.

Effects of alcohol

The extent of the effects depends on the type of alcohol and amount of alcohol consumed. Generally following effects are seen in alcoholics.

1. Immediate effects:Immediate effects include loss of the body control, nausea, vomiting, red eyes, loss of memory power, loss of speech control, increases in blood pressure and temper in antisocial and criminal activities.
2. Long term effects:It affects the digestive process and causes loss of appetite and indigestion. It may damage our liver, lungs, heart and kidneys. The fertility of both male and females may be decreased by alcohol. The social status of an alcoholic is lowered.

Prevention of alcoholism

• Stay away from alcohol.
• Change the custom of taking alcohol in family and be aware of its negative effects.
• Declare public places as alcohol-free zones.
• Reduce the users of alcohol in parties and carnivals.
• Ban advertisements on alcoholic products and promote awareness campaign against effects of alcohol.
