- Metabolism includes anabolic and catabolic activities which are purely chemical phenomenon.
- DNA, RNA are the genetic materials which are also made up of a chemical substance.
- Energy transferred to the body by organic chemical substance like protein, fats, carbohydrate etc.

Subjective Questions
Q1:
Define perception. Explain its factors affecting perception
Type: Long Difficulty: Easy

Perception is a sensory stimulus in response to sensory organs. It is the way one notice things ,especially with their senses.

Perception can be defined as being or becoming aware of certain stimuli inside or outside the body. This means our central cortex ,one vest, and sensory organs are always involved when we perceive certain things.

Factors affecting perception

Physical circumstances

Poor sensory organs : An individual with a poor hearing perceives wrong during a conversation. Thus, he perceives wrong meaning.

Conversation in a noisy place : When the conversation is done in noisy place, the person gets an only limited message or wrong information. Due to vibration and fast movement, not all sensory organs can capture the message well.

Colour : A certain dark colour that is bright in full daylight appears gray at night or dim light.

The tone of voice : High pitched and continuous sound produces a fearful situation eg: The signal of an ambulance.

However ,soft music of short duration is pleasant and liked by most people.

Emotional circumstances

The sensation experienced as soft ,smooth ,polite and warm are perceived as good and so retained for a long period. But hard rough and cold sensation are not positively perceived by most of the people. If we are in a happy mood , we take the comments positively but if we are in a bad mood we take negatively or even positive comment can hurt us.

Mental circumstances

Human beings have some peculiar qualities , they try to give personal meaning to special things eg: Same poster or chart may be perceived differently by different people.

Mental maturation and development process plays a significant role in perceiving things. Because of past experience and maturation, a man may be perfect and reasonable. Eg:incidence such as loss of parents give a big problem to small children but it hurts less to adult as they are aware of the fact that man is mortal , no one can survive forever.

Social and environmental circumstances

Culture , religious value , type of work , beliefs , economic status etc make us perceive things differently eg:a medical person consider the heart as a pumping machine but a philosopher may consider it as the symbol of love and feeling.

Spiritual circumstances

Most Hindus consider and believe in rebirth , good deeds, and religious work in this lifetime predicts prosperous life during rebirth. Hence , people try to listen to the religious or spiritual saying carefully.

Role of perception informing health beliefs

Perception plays a vital role when it combines with memory. For example, a lady had seen a man suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis. He was struggling for his last breath as he was not treated properly. The lady who had seen that man gets upset and nervous whenever she sees and hears a person suffering from the same disease

Relation of Biology with Other Sciences
Biology constitutes the relation with every aspect of human and every sciences. The study of biology needs experiences of almost all the branches of science including chemistry, physics, sociology, geology, climatology etc.
Relation of biology with chemistry
- Metabolism is the chemical reaction occurring in living organisms. The synthesis of a complex organic compound from raw materials is called anabolism. The breaking down of the complex substance into a simpler form called catabolism. Metabolism includes anabolic and catabolic activities which are purely chemical phenomenon.
- Living organisms have organic and inorganic chemical substances which influence the life of living organism.
- DNA, RNA are the genetic materials which are also made up of a chemical substance.
- Energy transferred to the body by the organic chemical substance like protein, fats, carbohydrate etc.
- Enzymes, hormones, and other body fluids are exclusively chemical substance.
- Mutation, variation, genetic recombination etc are of chemical basis.
Relation of biology with physics
- Some physiological activities such as transpiration, evaporation, conduction of water and salts are the physical phenomenon.
- The most important life process in the green plant is photosynthesis which is concerned with sunlight, a physical factor.
- Most of the biological instruments and techniques like microscope, X-ray, chemotherapy etc have physics application.
- Some of the physics factors like a force, energy pressure etc have biological application.
Relation of biology with sociology
- Sociology is the study of society with social institutions and social relationship.
- Anthropology is the branch of sociology which deals with the human related with origin, distribution, relationship, culture etc.
Relation of biology with geology
- The study of soil rock's type will be incomplete without the study of fossils found on them.
Relation of biology with climatology
- Study of climate at a particular place goes simultaneously with the study of the distribution and adaptational features of animals.
Relation of biology with mathematics
- Census of wild animals is based on the application of mathematical and statistical application. Such application is helpful in data compilation and analysis of living organisms.
