Conservation of Rare Animals of Nepal

Animals and birds are hunted and killed for food and trade. The loss of habitats due to the change of ecosystem and negative effect on natural environment are also factors affecting lives of birds and animals.

The following measures should be adopted to conserve rare animals and birds: -

1. Conservation of ecosystem

The birds and animals can survive in their natural habitat. The natural ecosystem provides the habitats birds and animals. Ecosystem should be conserved for the conservation of rare birds and animals. The conservation of forest, pasture, water resources, etc. helps to conserve the ecosystem.

2. Study and research

The study and research help to explore the present status of birds and animals. It helps to suggest the people about the condition and importance of birds and animals. The findings of the study and research are valuable for conservation of birds and animals, and guidelines for government for conservation work.

3. Reduction of effects of human activities

The development activities conducted by people like construction of road, industry, building, dam, etc. brings changes in the environment. The development activities produce waste products, sewage, harmful chemical, etc. Those productions have harmful effects on environment and that deplete the rare birds, animals and other living beings. Thus, the adverse should be controlled in the time of conducting development activities.

4. Restriction in hunting

People hunt the animals for illegal trade. They take skin, bone, teeth, feather and other valuable parts of animals for illegal trade. Such activities deplete the birds and animals. Hunting of birds and animals should be completely banned and strict legal actions should be taken against the offender.

5. Conservation of in-situ and ex-situ

The conservation of birds and animals should be conserved in their own natural habitat and man-made habitat. The natural habitat is called in-situ and the external habitat made by people is called ex-situ. The in-situ and ex-situ can contribute for the conservation of rare birds and animals.

6. Wildlife conservation law

Conservation law supports to the implementation of conservation programmes. Legal measures for the conservation of rare birds, animals and other living beings should be conducted strictly. The other necessary rules and regulations should be formulated and implemented properly.

7. Public participation in conservation

The conservation programme can be effective with the participation of local people only. It is essential for the people to participate in the conservation programme. The people should be made responsible for the conservation of birds, animals and other living beings.

8. Awareness programmes

The awareness programmes should be conducted at national and local level. It helps to give knowledge about the importance of birds and animals. The awareness generation helps in the conservation of birds, animals and other living beings.
