A report is one of the important tools of office procedure. It is a written statement of job done by an organizaton, committee, commission, etc. for particular period of time. It includes the detail about the problems, progess, achivements, facts, infromation etc. regarding the problem under study. It reflects real position and condition of the office.

Report being a significant document for an organization should be prepared by skilled and experienced staffs by following standard procedures. Hence, the following factors should be considered while drafting a report:
The heading of the report along side with date and subject should be established on top of the report.
The objective of the report and the period of the time should be clearly mentioned.
The information should be represented in such a manner that they are comprehensive communicate.
The report must contains the detail of survey, inspection, investigation, research.
The report must be clear, concise, complete, correct and polite using simple words.

Types of Report

Audit reportAudit Report A report covering the acitivites, progess and achievements made in a particular year is called Audit report. It is prepared to measure the performance over the year of the office. Audit report check if the financial transactions is made as per the general accepted accounting report or not.
Committee report A report prepared by a specific committee or commission to provide information about their findings, facts and suggestions after the completion of investigation and research is known as a committee report. Different committees are formed for the specific purposes. They prepare a report after the specific task completes which is called committee report or commission report.
Annual report Annual Report A report prepared by an organization or association to provide the information of activities performed during the particular year is known as an annual report. It is called annual report because it is prepared to state the performances of the office of a particular year at the end of the fiscal year.
Government report A report prepared by the government authority to prove the information of its plans and achievement for its own purpose or public knowledge is known as government report. It is prepared by forming committee or commission from time to time.
Academic reportAcademic Report A report prepared by the students during or after the completion of a study on the basis of the investigation over a specific subject is known as an academic report. It is also called as educational report. Generally, the students of the post-graduate level write this type of report as a thesis.
